Assignments for Episode 8

The goal of episode 8 is to bring together different methods of cooking into a delicious simple meal with special guest Evan Estrada from Master Chef Junior! You'll be roasting, sautéing, boiling, simmering, blending, tasting, adjusting seasoning, plating mindfully, enjoying.

Time in the kitchen is about de-stressing, having fun, challenging yourself, and nourishing your mind, body, and soul. Our hope is that you find great pride in your efforts after each lesson. We also want you to learn and grow! Take a photo of your recipes and share them with the group. After each episode, you'll be talking with your group about what went well and where you were challenged.

Do you usually like tomatoes?

What did you think about the tomato soup?

How do you think the fire roasting of the tomatoes changed the flavor of the soup? How do you think it would taste if you didn't fire roast the tomatoes?

How did it go sautéing your garlic, did it brown faster than you thought?

Why do you think it's important to boil the soup for 10-15 minutes? What is happening during that time that's critical for a soup (or sauce) recipe?

This recipe used fresh herbs for the soup but other recipes used dry herbs. What have you noticed when it comes to using fresh vs dry herbs? In a soup, which do you prefer and why?

What are other recipes that might benefit from fire roasting the vegetables?
