The Chefs De Cuisine Association
Two Chefs de Cuisines:
One Extended Family
Observers sometimes ask if there is a difference between the Chefs de Cuisine Association and the Chefs de Cuisine Education Foundation.
The short answer is yes.
Legally, they are two separate organizations with different stated purposes. They share common goals, however, and have worked hand in hand for almost 20 years.
The Association was formed in 1961 and is the oldest and largest chef organization in San Diego County. During almost 60 years of existence it has served the needs of its membership and the San Diego community.
That means the Association is a membership organization that exists to promote the common business of its members.
In 2002, members of the Association incorporated the Chefs de Cuisine Association of San Diego Education Foundation as a 501 c 3 nonprofit corporation within the State of California. The purpose of the Foundation is to serve the interests of a broader segment of the public.
The other fundamental difference is that the Foundation can accept tax refundable donations, while only paid professional dues can be deducted from the taxes of members of the Association.
Association members assist in Foundation projects and the Foundation board and committees become Association members and promote the growth and development of both organizations.
It is a case of an extended family and ranks number one on the list of Foundation and Association partnerships and affiliations.
